Their looks, character and distinctive white, elongated eggs make them a delight to have foraging in our backyard.
Classification: Heavy Breed
This lovely old heritage breed is a delight to keep. As each year passes we love our dorkings more and more. We keep the silver-grey variety and enjoy the contract in looks between the cockerels and the pullets. The roosters mature out to be handsome, large bodied, impressive birds that make excellent eating. If crossed with Indian game they make the even better table birds. The hens are very attractive and silver grey in colour with a deep chestnut breast and compliment the solid colouring of the males. All dorkings should carry the famous 5 toes on each foot so avoid breeding with any that have less or more. The dorkings have ancient roots going back to the time of the Roman invasion of Britian. Some folk say they were there when the Romans arrived others say they were brought by the invaders – either way the dorking is a very different bird today than it was 2000 years ago. Dorkings love to forage and we have found they lay better if they have daily access to free range. They are hardy birds and the hens make good broodies. We find the chicks to be initially slower growing than some of the other breeds and do best if hatched out earlier on in the season. They are the only heavy breed with red earlobes to lay a white egg.
Order online, which was simple to do, and then the item arrived extremely quickly. Great service

Omlet run high rise arrived super quick with good delivery and great communication with the business :) The building challenged us... But was great for a kit set product we got there! Then we ordered the eglu hutch and the shipping was a little annoying considering we brought the run a week prior. Thanks for these great products Appletons!

I love their products and the service is always prompt. My only little grumble would be the cost of the courier......a little expensive.

Arrived very promptly , the instructions were a little difficult to follow initially but finally managed to work it out. I did find the top gate closure did not slot into the hole , perhaps I got the wrong bit of pole but I did try them all , just drilled another hole closer to the top fixed the problem. Did adapt it a little to suit my plan in regards to placing the gate but is working well

The second fence went up much more quickly than the first....but not too much drama if you follow the instruction booklet carefully. The fences work well, with nil escapee's and are more suited to stone free ground.
While not causing an issue, there was a fault with the mesh diameter on one fence, which has 3 small squares 30mm or so about the middle then expanding approx. half way along to all 50mm squares, this led to a spare square at the top for half the fence, giving rise to several comments about reading instructions akin to map reading. Good product and great service as is the norm with Appletons.

Great Omlet Cube chook house. My chickens are so, so happy. It was my biggest DIY project yet and I was so proud once I had finished it all. Fionna was brilliant.
