Classification: Heavy Breed
Arauncana chickens originate from South America and are named after the Arauca Indians of Chile. They were introduced to Europe in the early 1900s although they have been heard of since the mid-sixteenth century. They originally had large floppy pea combs but these have been bred so that they now only have a very small irregularly shaped pea comb. They do not have wattles and the facial feathers are thick with a small crest on the head. The blue green egg is coloured throughout the shell so the inside is as blue as the outside but inside the yolk and egg white is still the same as any other hens egg! The breed can be born with or without a tail, those without are known as Rumpless Araucanas. They are short, rounded birds with an upright stance and a broad skull. They have an unusual wart-like feature on either side of their heads called plicae where the earlobes are usually seen. These have feathers on them which make up ear tufts which slat backwards. Araucana chicks are strong, fast growers and mature quickly. Here in NZ they are classified as a light breed. They do tend towards broodiness and make excellent mothers. They don't mind being kept in a run but like fresh grass so the coop will need moving on regularly.
Our Guinea Pigs are loving their new outdoor cage. Prompt delivery. Took a bit to put it together but it looks great and the quality is excellent. It will last for some time which is what we wanted.

Omlet run high rise arrived super quick with good delivery and great communication with the business :) The building challenged us... But was great for a kit set product we got there! Then we ordered the eglu hutch and the shipping was a little annoying considering we brought the run a week prior. Thanks for these great products Appletons!

I love their products and the service is always prompt. My only little grumble would be the cost of the courier......a little expensive.

Arrived very promptly , the instructions were a little difficult to follow initially but finally managed to work it out. I did find the top gate closure did not slot into the hole , perhaps I got the wrong bit of pole but I did try them all , just drilled another hole closer to the top fixed the problem. Did adapt it a little to suit my plan in regards to placing the gate but is working well

The second fence went up much more quickly than the first....but not too much drama if you follow the instruction booklet carefully. The fences work well, with nil escapee's and are more suited to stone free ground.
While not causing an issue, there was a fault with the mesh diameter on one fence, which has 3 small squares 30mm or so about the middle then expanding approx. half way along to all 50mm squares, this led to a spare square at the top for half the fence, giving rise to several comments about reading instructions akin to map reading. Good product and great service as is the norm with Appletons.
