Person Door in End Panel

With our Classic Hen House you can choose to have the person door access positioned in the front mesh panel or in the side panel.

The photo alongside shows the person door in the Left End Panel with the nest boxes on the Right. This option works well if you wish to place a run off the  front and do not wish to walk into the run to access the hen house.

Person Door in Front Panel

With our Classic Hen House you can choose to have the person door access positioned in the front mesh panel or in the side panel.

The photo alongside shows the person door in the  front mesh panel at the RIGHT End.

Upgrade Roof Colour

We can upgrade your Classic Hen House roof colour to match your house roof colour and that of other outbuildings. This option looks very smart and is worth the upgrade. Colorsteel Endura have a standard range of colours. Select one of their popular colours from their range and we can upgrade from the standard galvanised iron to the colour of your choice. Roof iron, flashings and rolled gutter will all match.

Optional Run (2.3m long x 2.4m wide x 1.9m high)

The Classic Hen House is available with an Optional Run built out the front (preferred position) or the back. This is the ideal set up if you wish to let your chooks out to sun themselves, dust bath and scratch in the dirt (the grass will not last long!) when you are not around to monitor them. A run will give you added peace of mind knowing your hens are safe from predators. It is also a good way to keep your hens as you have control of their wherabouts and ensuring your girls keep out your flower beds or from discovering your vege garden!

If you would like a run we recommend placing your hen house person door in th eend panel. The person size run door can be positioned in any panel but usually we recommend placing it in the run panel closest to the hen house door. These set up will require a level surface for assembly. If you require a customised run to suite your requirements we are happy to assist. Top netting panel is optional - helps to keep the light breeds in and the sparrows out!

We can also provide the Extended Optional Run - Size : 4.6m long x 2.4m wide x 1.9m high for those wanting to give their chooks a little more space!

Give careful consideration as to where you are going to position your hen house. Think about positioning solid walls into the prevailing wind and rain. We recommend facing the front mesh panel towards the sun. Here at Appletons our hen houses face north/north west. Sun in the hen house is a good thing! Think about making access to nest boxes easy as this will be a daily trip for egg collection. Plus allow enough space for the human door access when cleaning (enough space for a wheelbarrow!) Select positoning if looking at mesh front panel.

The roof, flashings and ridge capping are all galvanised corrogated iron. Should you prefer to upgrade to a specific roof colour please select your preferred colour option from the Coloursteel Chart below. A Coloursteel Endura roof upgrade looks smart, takes away the glare you can get with galvanised iron and works well to blend in with your house and other outbuildings.

One pop-hole is adequate BUT if you are wanting to alternate your flocks free-range time then consider adding another pop-hole or two. For example: If you have a paddock to the rear of the hen house and a run off the front then alternate their free range between these two areas. Keep them safe in the run whilst you are at work and give them access to free range at the weekends. This would require two pop-holes; one in the front (as standard) and an additional one at the rear. Please select from the options below and note in the comments where you would like your additional pop-hole/s placed.

Adding a run to your hen house will give greater control of your flock plus keep your birds safe and secure. We have two sizes available: the Optional Run (2.6m x 2.4m) and the Extended Optional Run (5m x 2.4m). We can also fully enclose the run should you wish to have mesh roof panels over the top. Please see options available below.

The run has a human access door but no pop-hole.  Should you require a pop-hole for chicken access to further free-range we can add one for you. Please select from th eoptions below and let us know in the comments where you would like it placed.

Make life easy and go with the Appletons Easy Care Drinker.  A good drinker is essential when keeping chickens.

If you opt for a run with your hen house then we recommend you go with the slot. This feature requires that we make a slot in the run to accommodate the drinker. If you are purchasing a run please also tick the option for the additional slot as their is an additional charge. The drinker will sit on the outside of the run for easy filling. Please NOTE we do not recommend sitting drinkers in the hen house hence we do NOT cut slots in the hen house itself to accommodate drinkers.
